Fort McKay overpowers Cowboys to take 2-0 series lead

FORT MCKAY - Codie Petersen and Riley Pollard both recorded hat-tricks in an 11-goal outburst by the Fort McKay Braves, defeating the Fort McMurray Cowboys 11-4 to take a 2-0 series lead in Game 2 of the Oil Sands Super Series.
Mason Mitchell, Mel Angelstad, Kyle Gladue(2), and Keegan Pruden also scored for Fort McKay, who had 13 of 18 skaters - as well as goalie Ethan Paulin-Hatch - record at least a point.
Paulin-Hatch stopped 33-of-37 shots in his second consecutive start for the Braves.
Fort McMurray opened the scoring with a Dylan McFatridge goal, but the Braves quickly followed it up with 3 goals in 2:31 to take a commanding 4-1 lead into the first intermission.
McFatridge recorded a hatrick for the Cowboys, who twice pulled within a 2-goal deficit in the 2nd period, only to surrender a goal back to Fort McKay 22 seconds later to make it 7-4.
Aaron Swier stopped 38 shots for Fort McMurray. Both teams scored once on the man advantage, with the Braves going 1-for-4 and the Cowboys going 1-for-3.
Carter Marshall rounded out the scoring for the Cowboys, who were outshot 49-37.
Game 3 goes Tuesday night at 7:30PM at Lawrence Bull Powder Arena.
